Details: | The objective of the course is to provide participants with an understanding of the problems and the needs for conservation and sustainable management of animal genetic resources; how to characterise these resources; an understanding of genetic concepts important to their management, such as rate of inbreeding and effective population size; how to establish sustainable conservation schemes both in situ and ex situ; and how best to utilise molecular information to support activities. The training will be complemented by examples and assignments for group work, case studies and discussions. The course is addressed to professionals in the field of conservation and management of animal genetic resources, professionals involved in development of regional and national policies and research programmes for animal genetic resources, technical staff in breeding organisations and specialised NGOs, teachers and researchers. |
