| Details: | Founded in 2002, the Stem Cell Network North Rhine Westphalia coordinates and optimises state-wide activities in stem cell research, provides funding for young researchers and represents North Rhine Westphalia's academic and commercial stem cell activities at international level. Promoting interdisciplinary exchange between the complex biomedical, legal and ethical dimensions of stem cell research, the Network also aims at improving public acceptance of this sensitive field. First of its kind, the Stem Cell Network North Rhine Westphalia serves as a role model for the state government?s new approach to identify and nurture vital future research fields in the life sciences. The meeting program reflects the core activities of the Stem Cell Network North Rhine Westphalia. Central to the meeting are symposia featuring lectures by international experts in embryonic and adult stem cell differentiation, symmetric and asymmetric cell division, reprogramming, biomaterials, transplantation and clinical application. This biomedical core will be supplemented by presentations covering ethical and legal issues relevant to both stem cell scientists and decision-makers. The evening hours are reserved for an outreach to the public in the form of panel and plenary discussions. On both days, a poster session in the Foyer of the congress venue will offer a unique forum for young researchers to discuss their scientific results with national and international experts. There will be ?1,000 awards for the three best poster contributions. Awardees will be selected by an international jury and announced during the closing session of the congress. |
