Transgenic animals offer scientists a model of human diseases and help them understand the genetic links. There are thousands of different types of transgenic animals. One type of mouse, for example, has been essential in developing treatments for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and clinical trials are just beginning. Transgenic rats and mice provide valuable information on hormones in health and disease. But scientists must constantly monitor the welfare of these animals and seek to improve breeding techniques.
Join our discussion about the pros and cons of transgenic animals in medical research.
Short presentations from the speakers will be followed by open discussion with the audience.
