Stem Cells Advanced Course: "Stem Cells and therapeutic applications" - Seminar - Frankreich (France)

Date: 15.10.2006, 18:30h to 19.10.2006, 21:00h
Location: Mercure Coudray Montceaux Route de Milly 91830 Le Coudray Montceaux
Le Coudray Montceaux
Frankreich (France)
Keywords: Stem cell research - Cloning
Details: Genopole Evry (near Paris) is one of the largest genomic research and biotechnology parks in France From October 16th to 19th, 2006, Genopole is organising an Advanced Course dedicated to ?Stem Cells and therapeutic applications?. This course is most particularly addressed to post-doctoral and senior scientists who wish to enter the field of stem cell research or else to extend their research to new domains in the stem cell field, whatever the type of cells and the goal they envision pursuing. Since the audience will be limited to 40 participants a selection will be carried out by the Scientific Committee. Stem cells, whether embryonic ?immortal and pluripotent- or tissue-specific ?with less proliferative power and only multipotent- are either already used or else deemed quite promising for therapeutics in a vast number of pathologies. They may in particular be employed to build up cell banks from which ?therapeutic cells?, amplified and differentiated on demand, could be prepared to fulfil the logistic needs of transfer of biological products (cell and gene therapy). Stem cells may also permit to model healthy or diseased human tissues and organs, thus providing powerful and flexible tools with which to screen molecules for predictive toxicology or therapeutic efficacy. A wealth of studies have already been dedicated to the biology of some stem cell populations, and the knowledge gathered can be quite extensive, e.g. on the haematopoietic system or the skin. Nevertheless, major mechanisms remain largely elusive, including those that support the two characterizing attributes of all stem cells, i.e. the capacity for self-renewal, on the one hand, for differentiation into tissue-specific cells, on the other hand. The program of the course has been set in order to provide participants with the most up-to-date view of all main issues of interest for stem cell research, as identified and presented by sixteen world renown speakers.
