Details: We would like to invite you to the 22nd Ernst Klenk Symposium in Molecular Medicine on "Emerging Infectious Diseases" which takes place on November 5 to 7, 2006 in Cologne. We are very pleased to announce that Prof. Peter Palese (Department of Microbiology, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York) who will be awarded this year's Robert-Koch-Prize together with Prof. Yoshihiro Kawaka (Japan) for his innovative research results on Influenza viruses was substantially involved in the scientific coordination of the program. Prof. Palese will also present the Ernst Klenk Lecture entitled "What Can We Learn from Reconstructing the Extinct 1918 Pandemic Influenza Virus?" The list of speakers includes researchers at the forefront of bacteriology and virology who will discuss the challenges created by emerging pathogens. The topics include the extraordinary advances made in sequencing the genomes of pathogens, the progress in understanding host-pathogen interactions as well as the technological breakthroughs in proteomics, microarray analysis, RNA interference, vaccination and anti infectants. The Symposium - organized by the Center for Molecular Medicine of the University of Cologne (CMMC) and the Medical Society of the University of Cologne and the Ernst Klenk Foundation (Marburg) - is intended to provide a forum for discussion of state-of-the-art research in these fields for interested scientists and students from academia and industry. The symposium - held at the Main Lecture Hall of the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne - will start on Sunday, 05 November 2006 at 1.30 p.m. and will end on Tuesday, 07 November 2006 at 1.15 p.m. Please note that participation is free of charge.
