EACME Conference 2008: 'Organizing Bioethics: Challenges for Western, Central and Eastern Europe' - Conference - Czech Republic

Details: In 2008 Charles University of Prague, Czech Republic, and the European Association of Centres of Medical Ethics (EACME) will organise the EACME annual conference. Charles University will be the host and co-ordinator of the event. The aim of the conference is to compare experiences around organizing bioethics in Western, Central and Eastern Europe. There are four central topics: - Ethics in Healthcare Institutions; - Ethics and Research; - National and Local Ethics Committees; - Organizing Ethics Education. Abstracts addressing the ethical dimensions of the following topics can be submitted: ? ETHICS IN HEALTHCARE INSTITUTIONS: - Clinical ethics consultation - Institutional ethics policies / guidelines - Ethics on the shop floor ? ETHICS AND RESEARCH: - Bioethics and pharmaceutical companies - European perspectives on informed consent - Research on vulnerable people ? NATIONAL AND LOCAL ETHICS COMMITTEES: - Harmonization versus heterogeneity of standards - Procedural aspects of ethics committees work - Societal impact of ethics committees ? ORGANIZING ETHICS EDUCATION: - Ethics in healthcare professionals curricula - Patients as teachers - Interdisciplinary approaches to bioethics teaching The program of the conference includes plenary sessions as well as parallel sessions. Persons wishing to present papers at the conference are invited to submit an abstract addressing the ethical dimensions of the conference topics (500 words maximum) before March 1, 2008. Papers will be selected from the abstracts by the Conference Program Committee.
