As it is known, there are various types of predictive genetic diagnosis -preconceptive, preimplantation, prenatal and postnatal-, and the regulation of them it will be quiet different depending on the countries.

European legislation on predictive genetic diagnosis has been in place since the early 1990s. The main legislation currently in place are:

  • Genetic manipulations European Parliament Resolution of 16 March 1989 on the ethical and juridical problemns in relation to genetic manipulations
  • Artificial fertilization European Parliament Resolution of 16 March 1989 on "in vivo" and "in vitro" artificial fertilization
  • Human Rights and Biomedicine Council of Europe. Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Dignity of the Human Being with regard to the Application of Biology and Medicine: Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine, of 19 November 1996
